Looking for the silver lining
So this car accident has slowed life down in ways that are very uncomfortable. I got stuck in a cast on my arm (amongst all the other fun and games) - I know it is for my own good - but it has made my gardening life miserable. I cannot garden, cook, crochet, knit, sew - or even go to work. Even typing is an uncomfortable process. But I am optimist - I hear Annie singing in my head - the sun will come out tomorrow - so for now I am searching for my silver lining in all this.
A couple of spontaneous sunflowers - I can see them out my window - they make the day brighter.
An actual silver lining (my sweet husband was enjoying the day and catching some amazing shots)
Though most things got in the garden late - and I am waiting, and hoping, that things grow - we have had a few guys enjoy the neglect and sunshine. The peppers are actually producing. Granted the tomatoes are limping along and definitely not ready for a of batch salsa, and the onions never even made it into the ground, and the cilantro go leggy because I could not harden it off! Farmer’s markets will probably have to fill quite a few of my needs. But atleast peppers are growing - I have never had success with growing peppers - so I am quite excited about these.

When life gives you lemons…
So my life, and my garden got blown off course. My husband and I were in a horrible car accident in early May. Fortunately we both walked away - but we definitely got bumped and bruised and contused (if that is a word - hehe yup it is a word, went and looked it up). Our car was completely destroyed.
And, of course, this had to happen the weekend before our last frost date here in CO, so planting has been slow going. Actually everything has been going slow. But we have managed to get a few things done.

Piece by piece, the garden will get finished. All the tomatoes are finally in the ground (thank you dear husband for finishing that!). I am trying peppers again this year. I have tried them in pots before, but that was not working well - so I got some in the ground this year.
Last year our apple trees got hit by a late frost, so no apples. This year, there appear to be a ton - we shall see who all makes it.
Canning and dehydrating this year may happen with more produce from the farmers market than home grown - but well, I tried.
Daydreaming about the season
Last year was a rough year. Our garden was a gift and the joy we got out of it was immeasurable. I look forward to this years garden being even more robust with many more types of veggies and flowers. Lettuces have already come back from re-seeding themselves and the scallions over wintered well, much to my sprise. The gardens have been rototilled and expanded - with the thought of adding maybe just one more for this year.

Barefoot in my BearFoot Garden
This is the pumpkin patch from last year. My husband has always wanted a pumpkin patch - Yes, him and Snoopy (aka Eli, the wonder mutt) wanted to sit out there in the Great Pumkin Patch and wait for the Great Pumpkin. Alas a hail storm wiped out the leaves, so the great pumpkin was not so much. This year, we will try again. The patch was HUGE before the hail storm and hopefully we can achieve that again.
